My first car was a Mini, which, despite its size has been terrible for me as great. It was forwarded to me by my mother in 1968 after retiring from being a visitor health. I had, until 1970 when I was sent abroad to work.
On my first mission Abroad in Oman (1970-71), I drove a Landrover LWB Mark1 and is the successor to the Mark 2, which both have plenty of headroom. Was great on gravel roads to 60 mph. The disadvantage is that it is in the studio, a lot.
Then on Hong Kong in 1971, where I Bought my first car, certainly used a Triumph Herald convertible that was a great turning circle. I traded in a VW Beetle, but it was not as memorable as the triumphs. In 1973 to 1975, I was in Indonesia, but do not own a car there, they were provided. But I was introduced to the Toyota Corolla which we have had a number of vehicles bureau. A great car. We also had a Holden Kingswood, which been fantastic to drive.
In 1975, I went to work in Qatar, where I bought my first new car for £ 1,500. It was the only new car in Qatar and it was a Subaru hatchback. It was memorable because I asked if I could have a driving test and the seller said: "All sit in it, it's the same thing" It proved difficult and costly that the head gasket blew. I managed to sell a couple of months before my departure in July 1978 and borrowed for two months, a Chevrolet Camaro, which was simply fantastic. It has everything a very powerful engine.
1978 found me in Hong Kong and began a love affair with the Agreement Honda that I purchased new. Even then, it has power steering, air conditioning and it is automatic. Because of a slowing market car in 1980 coupled with unfavorable exchange rate, I sent the car to my house 6 months and leave it sold in late April 1981 to 2700 pounds.
I was in Indonesia from 1981 to 1983, but do not own a car there. I was again provided with a car, a Toyota that was again very reliable and I made a trip to Surabaya and return (2000 km)
I was Hong Kong and then from 1983 to 1987 and belonging to two other Honda, although these agreements were to be purchased used.
In 1992, I worked Swaziland and need a cheap reliable car that I could not afford a Mercedes. So I bought a 3 year Toyota Cressida Estate with a 2.4 liter engine gasoline. It was perfect for mountain roads in Swaziland. Mbabane where I worked is 3,500 feet above sea level and even lower in the valley Ezulwini was a decrease from 2000 meters. It has air conditioning, power steering and cruise control. It is totally reliable and took me safely on a trip to Cape Town (6000 km) and Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe to go fishing for a week (4,000 kms). I also many trips to the Eastern Transvaal and the Kruger National Park where it was not uncommon to 1000 km in 2 days. It was a real cracker and I sold for only € 1,000 Less than I paid three years earlier.
